Easy V-Neck Baby Sweater
Size: newborn (18” chest)
Materials: 2 pair #6 needles (for spares)
sport or dk yarn (about 300 yards)
Gauge: 5 st = 1”
Cast on 46 stitches. Knit 50 ridges (100 rows). Leave on a spare needle.
Cast on 27 stitches. Knit 34 ridges. On next row, knit K2tog, knit to end of row. Repeat on each right side row 11 more times. (15 st.) Knit 4 more ridges and leave stitches on a spare needle.
Cast on 27 stitches. Knit 3 ridges. Next row is a buttonhole row: Knit across to last 4 stitches. K2tog, yo, K 2. (Repeat buttonhole row on ridge 11, 18, 25, and 32.) Knit 2 more ridges and begin neck decreases. On next row, knit across to last 2 st. K2tog. Repeat this row ever right side 11 more times. (15 st.) Knit 4 more ridges.
Now for the grand bind off:
Put both fronts on one needles, right sides facing you, left on the left, right on the right, with the pointy end of the needle on the right. Place fronts and back right sides together. 3-needle bind off the 15 stitches for the front, continue binding off across the 16 stitches for the neck back, 3-needle bind off the other front. Raise your hand if you have any questions.

With right side facing, pick up and knit 42 stitches, 21 each side of shoulder seam. (I pick up the bar between ridges.) Knit 4 ridges. Next row and every 4th row, decrease 1 st each side 7 times (28 st). Knit 2 ridges even; bind off on wrong side.
Sew side and underarm seams. Sew on buttons.
