I was watching Rug Rats this morning, and I had this great idea- a bonified light bulb moment. I, I think, should blog! Not that I have much to blog about, I just haven’t been doing much blogging lately.
I really needed a cool little summer bag to add to my collection of purses, so out came the lovely, funky Squiggle that my SP4 so generously gifted me and the matching Kool-Aid dyed wool. I scrounged up my preprinted Sophie Bag pattern, and off I went. Low and behold, I couldn’t find my 10½ needles. So I think (therein lies the problem), 10s will work fine. The purse may be smaller and denser, but plenty of yarn, right? Wrong. I added in another almost the same color of green skein to knit with the Squiggle and still used way more that the suggested yardage. I did have enough left over to knit up a matching change purse. Two days of knitting, knitting, knitting, then felting, felting, felting, and here we have IT!
And I literally mean IT. Cousin It from the Adams Family gone punk. But DDs say it’s cool, so it must be. I’ll use it with pride and attitude. (I have since trimmed the fringe around the bottom to neaten it up.)
Wednesday is Anti-procrastination Day in Fly Lady land. In honor of this auspicious occasion, last Wednesday I pulled out the purse that was to be the most awesome of awesomest purses ever- that turned out to be the bucket bag from down under (No, I do not mean Australia.). I firmly believe for a purse to be functional, it should be at least as wide as it deep- a little wider is better. Deeper than wide is dumb. You can’t find anything. I threw the not awesome in a pile months ago, occasionally pulling it out, glancing it over waiting for inspiration to strike, then tossing it back. Wednesday I was struck. I cut off the top to make it more proportional, then used a stripe from the cut off portion to make a handle. And voila!
The not quite awesome but oh so much better than it was purse.
Last Saturday was DD#2's 16th birthday. What a hoot. She co-partied with a friend at a rec center. They did all the planning (we old folks are so not capable) and pretty much had what the wanted- except for the $150 wedding cake style cake. DD#1 dj-ed and took her electric guitar. It was loud, it was fun, cake and balloons for everyone.

This Saturday, we were at the beach! Yee ha! A weekend is never enough at the beach, but beats not going at all. My car knitting time produced this:
The sweater is knit with Lion Brand Cotton Ease. I love this stuff for babies, just wish they weren't discontinuing it. The preemie blankie is old acrylic stash, judging from the color I'd say from the 70s.
The beach part of the trip was great, too. Warm sand, rough surf, Mr. Sun shining down. Saturday afternoon there was a wedding on the beach. They'd been setting up all day with no sign of starting yet, so I took a quick trip back across the only beach access to our room. When I came back, there were a few guests wandering across the walkway so I, in nothing but swimsuit, just wander with them. And get stuck in the middle of the procession. I realize at this point that the photographer is filming the guests as they arrive. Oops. I yuk it up with a few ladies behind me, try to hide behind the family in front, make a mad dash to the right the moment I step of the bridge, and run into the hysterically laughing arms of my family.
Hubby and I sat on our balcony at night and listened to the band across the street. DDs went to the arcade and flirted with the guy at the snowcone stand. (I had no idea one person could eat that many snowcones.)
And now I'll be doing laundry the rest of the week. I kept forgetting to take our camera, but did get one parting shot. My grandchildren will think I never went on a single vacation with my family.
I was wondering how to get started with a weblog, and thought maybe you could help me. Please... I haven't asked anyone yet, and I have been reading everyone's blog's for about a year now. I would really like to be able to interact with everyone. If it helps, I do knit....:)
