Sometimes this is as far as I get. I miss the creativity in planning. The excitement wanes, and every stitch feels like a Wednesday. Deep into a cable project, I long for lace. One misplaced stitch in a lacy scarf, and I’m begging for the simplicity of garter. The garter becomes tedious and leads to another cable project. Oh, the circle of the knitting life. I was making great progress on the cotton cardi when I realized I needed a light summer shawl. With no other size 8 circular in sight, I had to borrow.
With big projects, the end can seem so far away. I throw in quickies- a dishcloth, a hat, a simple baby sweater- for that sense of accomplishment, but then I feel even further behind.
Middles aren’t as much fun to photograph either. The black Scoop is finished except for a little sewing, but in a picture it’s just a larger black blob. The Guidepost sweater just needs a neckband, so why bother with a picture now? The right front of the cotton cardi is a lot like the left. And second socks look just like the first.
Could my lethargic middles have something to do with being a middle child? Hmmm, why yes it does. (Click here if you are a doubter.) Now I am totally relieved of all guilt for not finishing what I start. Only, I really do want this cardi…..
I'm all for instant gratification in knitting. I guess that's why I enjoy knitting baby things so much.
